A little background
The Mayflower Society has been running since the mid 1970's (nearly 35 years).
As a self-help group based in Southampton, the Mayflower Society warmly welcomes Transgendered persons their friends and
families from all over the south. In fact from all over the country - if you are in the area when we have our meetings, you'd
be most welcome to join us.
What is the Mayflower Society about ?
The Mayflower Society aims to promote understanding and acceptance of Transgendered persons in society.
The Mayflower Society aims to provide social opportunities in safe surroundings where people can meet to socialise
or discuss their gender issues with like-minded people. The Mayflower Society encourages participation by partners, family
and friends in discussions and social events, and aims to provide practical support to members, and their relatives.
The Mayflower Society provides these social opportunities through regular get-togethers such as the Sunday afternoon tea
event once a month, frequent Disco's, an Annual Ball and the occaisional meal out.
The Mayflower Society is able to provide information, personal representation and presentations to professional caring
organisations, and enjoys formal links with Hampshire Constabulary & Southampton City Council.
Above all, the Mayflower Society is here for people to turn to.
Meet the people
Tina Getz & Gloria
My name is Tina, I am the present co-ordinator - the central point of contact for all Mayflower Society matters.
I manage the regular meetings in Southampton.
My loving partner, Gloria, has her own page here for expressing a partner's point of view, and she
is a great help to me in making our meetings go smoothly. Her
business premises(lounge suites) provide the venue for the
monthly T@Home Sunday Tea & Cake Affair.
Char & Andrea
Char and Andrea manage and produce the bi-monthly Mayflower magazine. Its a light topical read and full of useful
information such as T*oriented advertisements for all those things that we T*Girls need.
Colin Ross
Colin, god bless him, has provided the Mayflower group with a disco to remember for almost as long as I can remember.
You should try a google search on Colin Ross sometime.
I really didn't know he was into bagpipes, satanic rituals and psychological trauma! Where does he get the time?
Michelle & Ann
Michelle retired as Mayflower co-ordinator (sturmbahnfurher) in December 2007 after over 20 years service.
Our thanks and appreciation go out to her, and her partner, Ann (who did most of the work we are told), for their sterling
efforts and long hours put into keeping the Mayflower Club & Society running with such a strong constituency.
